A Travellerspoint blog

My First Ever Blog

My Plan and prayer requests for the next 2 weeks

I am currently sitting on my comfy double bed, my bible to my left and my 'West Africa' Lonely Planet book to my right. And am now delaying the packing process by starting my blog.

My current plan for the next week or so....

Tuesday morning - fly Bristol to Benin.
Tuesday evening - arrive at Cotonou airport with all my luggage (!), exchange some money into west african francs, and hop in a taxi to Père Aupiais College (home for the first few days), having attempted to barter with the taxi man for a fair price.

For the first five days, I will be attending a christian retreat (http://www.taize.fr/en_article17576.html) - staying with a local family (the finer details will hopefully become more apparent once I arrive....). It will be a chance to spend time in prayer and worship, deepening my relationship with Jesus Christ and also an opportunity to share life and faith with my peers who have the same beliefs in Jesus but a very different world view. I am really excited for this, a chance to have some space before starting my new job with Mercy Ships, and also to experience living with a local christian family, and no doubt an army of mosquitoes. What could go wrong!?

Then Sunday 4th September - it all begins. I will get a taxi to the Africa Mercy where I will spend the next 16 weeks, living and working on board the floating hospital.

For those who believe in the power of prayer...
- praise God for his faithfulness and provision this far
- that God would go before me, preparing the way
- for protection as I travel and whilst staying with a local family
- that God would reveal himself to me and that my relationship with him would continue to grow during this retreat

Please keep the whatsapp and facebook messages coming, I will love receiving news from back home.
Thanks for reading!
